Cast of Characters

Events by Webb

-Wendy Winters is at her surgery talking to some Italians. Its about a certain ammount of money she owes.

-She tells them she will pay when she can, and they leave with a warning.

-Winters is startled by the appearance of ‘Tom Cat’ a patient of her’s. He is a patient because he has... cat issues, and expresses them in terms of cyberware.

-Shade recives a phone call from a source who’s interested in his decking skills, and get the team together. Winters needs money, and calls Webb to inform him she would like to be in on the next job. She also knows a gunshark who might be able to help.

-Shade meets the team at a dive called ‘Dante’s Inferno.’ Few minutes later Winters and Tom Cat walk in.

-Team moves to ‘The Rubber Suit club,’ dedicated to 50’s B-movie monsters, to meet the Fixer.

-Fixer is Mr Summers. He informs them the job is an extraction from an Ares Macrotech compund in Silicon Valley, followed by delivery of subject to New Orleans. The subject is providing detailed schematics, overview of security personell and procedures, and an emmergencey contact account. The rest is up to the runners.

-Mr. Summers has assets outside San Francisco who can smuggle the team and their gear, for a price.

-Shade sees a shadowrunner at the bar, and attempts to chat her up, getting absolutely nowhere. Fact is, she’s working, and the team are her job. If Webb had not been in the john when Shade found this out, he would have started a firefight.

-Team split up to work a few contacts. Thanks to The Mole’s contact inside Ares, they find out vital information about on-site contractors, which they can use to infiltrate the compound.

-Shade and Winters go back to the surgery to download med programs. While there Shade gives Winters 50G’s to cover her expences. Webb thinks he’s gonna have to talk to Shade about that.

-On the way back Shade and Winters are ambushed by a couple of operatives. Shade takes out the first one with a stun baton, and gets into a vicious firefight with the second one, trading hits at point blank range. The gun monkey is wired, but Shade’s bodyarmour stops most of the rounds and he kills his assailant. Wendy appears to be in shock and shoots the other one.

-Webb hears about the attack on his girlfriend, thinks its to do with the other team, and initiates counter surveilance procedure. JC shape changes and follows the team to another club to make sure they are not watched. But there is no sign of any surveilance element.

-Winters and Webb go across town to pay off her loan from the mob.

-The team get together, and board a hired T-bird to Cal-Free. On arrival they are met by <> of the Yakuza. She gets them the gear they need for the mission- a van, some paint, and a safe-house.

Mission sit-rep:

  • Who

Dr. Sherman Royce, a scientist working on Ares’ probe to Halleys comet.

  • What

Extract him from Ares at his own behest.

  • When

In time for some kind of auction in New Orleans.

Mission execution:

  • Who

Assult element: The Mole, Winters and Webb Intel: Shade Support: JC, Lake, Tom Cat

  • What

Intel element hacks in and causes a fault in the air-conditioning. Intercepts callout for repair unit, and sends in assult element disguised as repair unit. Assult unit R Vs with mark and extracts him.

  • Where

Ares secure compound, Silicon valley.

What actually happened whas this: Team sat in the safe-house, half of them painted the van, half sent out for pizza. Lake came up with the idea of getting the mark to meet one of the operatives in the washroom. He is then led out wearing a ‘polymer cloak and put into the repair cart. Simple.

Team pours over provided installation plans and finds a suitable place to RV. Winters, Webb and Shade look at air-con schematics and learn how to repair air-conditioning. They assemble all required gear and store it in the painted van.

Next day, Shade hacks in and causes the air-con to fail. He intercepts the signal out and sends it to the team’s van. They divert towards the Ares compound. At the gate, they are stopped by security and asked a barrage of stupid questions. Turns out Shade neglected to give them legends, or set up communications. After Webb spends two minutes at the gate trying to remember his date of birth, the guards get bored and let them through. Ares security has now become suspicious.

25 minutes into the job, and Wendy and Webb are finishing the repair job, while The Mole has gone to the Washroom to RV with Dr Royce.

Problem Number 1: The Mole has no idea how to do this. He is not sure whether to hide in a cubicle or stay at the sink repeatedly washing his hands. He finally opts for the former, and then the latter.

Finally he identifies Dr Royce, only to be told that he’s been assigned a security goon, who’s waiting outside. The Mole uses his expertise to remove Dr Royce’s electronic tag.

Winters and Webb have finished the repair, and wait outside the washroom for their ‘collegue.’

Problem Number 2: Outside the washroom is Dr Royce’s security goon. Webb realises the goon won’t leave without Dr. Royce, and decides he needs to be taken out. He goes into the washroom, and kicks a wall panel. The goon walks in, wondering at the suspicious noise. Unfortunately The Mole has made no attempt to hide his operation, and the goon sees Webb, The Mole, all cubicle doors open, and no sign of Dr Royce. He and Webb realise this at the same time, and Webb slugs him. Wendy finishes him with a wrench to the back of the head. So far, she has the highest bodycount on the mission, and Webb wonders about this.

The team stuff the goon into a cubicle, Dr Royce into the cart, and proceed towards the exit.

At the gate, the security ask the team more stupid questions, but this time they are ready and start talking about the football. They get waved through the gate.

Problem Number 3: The team is being followed. There is another van following the team. The ‘support element’ have not arranged any support. The only one to do so is Lake, who is in a car heading towards the team.

The ‘assult elemet’ meanwhile, realise they are being tailed by an Ares van full of combat troops. The Mole and Webb have narco-jet pistols, the only wepons Mole carries around. Winters takes the wheel, and Mole and Webb climb into the back to root for something they could use as a weapon. The find some gas cannisters, and tape them to the repair cart. The idea is to use the whole thing as a missile against the other van. Webb opens the rear doors, while Mole knocks off the valve with a wrench. Unfortunately they miss and the whole thing goes off inside the van creating a cloud of fog. This causes a motorway pile-up and takes out the other van. Wendy, meanwhile, drives into a lamp-post. Fortunately, Lake turns up with some wheels to bail everyone out. He wonders why they are all speaking in squeaky voices.

-Team RV’s with yakuza contacts and buy passage down to New Orleans.

-JC contacts local fixer Maclaine, and arranges a safe-house for the team.
