Background

Pins started out his criminal career with petty thuggery working for the odd local gang that needed someone worked over, or small-time lone-sharks whose customers needed 'encouragement' to repay. Being naturally violent and inclined to hurt people, this was an ideal job for Pins, and he made money and reputation quickly. The nature of small time criminal gangs (that don't even get on the radar of the real criminal organisations) are cliquish and distrustful of strangers and those that are different. So it is not surprising that Pins and those he associated with were 'intolerant' of the unusual - and Meta Humans ranked as unusual. They weren't die-hard Humanis Policlub racists, they didn't mind elves.. after all they look kinda normal.. but trolls.. orks.. and sometimes dwarves.. they avoided when they could.. and if one was to be one of their victims.. maybe they tried a little harder, did a little more damage than necessary. A time went by, Pins spent his money freely on anything to make him better at his job, making himself stronger, faster - knowing he'd never afford the best speed increases, he settled for boosted reflexes.. but it was enough to eventually propel him up to real actual shadowrunning. More money was made, more Cyber Ware followed.

When surge struck, Pins was initially struck down with agonising pain, and seeing all the strange surge-related effects reported on the trid he feared the worse. When after a few days he recovered with no obvious effects, he was relieved. However surge had effected him - just in a more subtle way. Very recently his hair and skin began to change colour, and while he isn't fully aware of what is happening, his hair and skin colour will now always change after a few weeks to reflect the predominant colour of his surroundings - at the moment, being a city dweller, this is grey - meaning he looks rather ill, however does help him blend into the background when he's wearing urban DPM. The recent change, coming after his assumed belief that surge hadn't affected him, has made Pins somewhat introverted - not helped by his old friends and colleagues turning their backs on him and wanting nothing to do with a 'freak'.

Question to readers: What colour do you think would be predominant in Seattle of the SR world? Grey? or some neon colour from all the neon flashing signs? - Stephen

Pins' personality is a little subdued now.. his intolerance showing only now and again when he gets angry, money is starting to get short, and he's desperate to work with anyone.. his old intolerances half-forgotten.
