The One Where Wendy Seduces Shade

Prologue
Shade's deckmeister Sidney Green will look around looking for buyers of software, and gets 250,000 nuyen. Wendy Winters is moving to a new clinic which has a front called the Aphrodite Clinic. Shade helps her box stuff for her move. Shade gets a checkup at her new clinic, he is interested in some bioware. Shade goes out boozing with Wendy.
Monday, 28th August
Next morning Shade gets an early call (5am) from fixer, Mr Sommers, he has wired 30K and some info, he needs a job done. The info says he is to meet a Mr Johnson (Satoshi Nakamura), with a pic, wants a meet on 6:30am ferry leaving from Tacoma docks Shade heads off to the meet, and on his way he calls Pins and The Mole.
The Mole and Pins can't get to the meet on time, but Shade makes it, and the job is explained: Satoshi Nakamura's son Yoshi Nakamura has been kidnapped from boarding school (Wanatabee Academy Of Seattle), and he wants him found and returned in 2 days before a Wanatabee Matrix Services Seattle board vote which the kidnappers maybe tring to coerce him into voting against his interests (but no demands have been made)
Team go to meet the school principal Jeiji Nakumoto, avoiding Lone Star and FBI that are pottering about doing their kidnap investigation. They talk to the security/systems adimistrator Sam Kanawabi and find the Wanatabee Acadamy Of Seattle's matrix host was hacked.
Shade and Pins go to kidnapped boy's room, to talk to the room mate, cyber-dog being annoying, Pins has the idea to hack into the dog for any footage it might have seen - and we see a man leaning over the bed, man looks around and throws dog under the bed. Man is wearing a ski mask, rolled up, so we see his face.
Shade looks at matrix logs, and discovers the system was hacked from a kids room. John Takamuru - kid from whose room the network was hacked, 17 years old. Pins and Shade go to John Takamuru's room and look around. he has turned his terminal into a basic cyberdeck. Pins and Shade then talk to the boy, who confesses he hacked in using principals password, but in the matrix he saw an intruder in hockey mask and trench-coat who used a 'smith & wesson' style attack program.
Meanwhile The Mole is investigating the corporation and the vote to outsource a project for a new matrix host called th X3000AMS to Mitsuhama Computer Technologies which is the suspected basis for the kidnapping. Wanatabee Matrix Services Seattle is a subsidiary of Wanatabee Marix Services and its CEO John Wanatabee is the so of Keb Wanatabee the COE of Wanatabee Matrix Services. Wanatabee Matrix Services Seattle is semi-autonomous. John Wanatabee is against the MCT partnership. Renraku and MCT both have put in offers to sub-contract, MCT has won it. So Renraku are annoyed at it. So could be an inside job, or a Renraku job.
During kidnap cameras were hacked and turned off, they turn on just to show a van pulling off. Shade managed to get an image from it, and recognises a man from Wendy's clinic, a customer.
Shade talks to a Lone Star contact. Finds out that a burnt out van has been located, serial number shows it was reported stolen (stuffa shack maintenance truck) a few weeks ago, Stuffa Shack maintenance technician parked it and came out to find it dissapeared - it had a new security system that took photos and transmitted to HQ, the photo is of a female Ork, blonde tied back hair, brown leather jacket, white t-shirt, jeans. On forehead a tattoo of a burning wheel, a gang symbol.
Stuffa shack employee is positive he had locked the van. Number plats of the get away van, shows it is from a similar van, it and transponder were cloned. Shade shows picture from doggy-cam, contact will look it up.
Pins meets his 'buddy' a ganger called Needles, who will look up the gang symbol.
The Mole meets Mr Sanchez, and learns that ski-mask guy is a Filipino terrorist, and that Mr Sommers is a former CIA chappie.
Pins gets call from Needles, she is a Tacoma ganger, the Wheeled Warriors, go-gang, vehicle heists to order, etc etc.
Shade and Pins go to Wendy's clinic for info on the man Shade recognised from there, and she refused to help as it would be c aconflict of interest (her clinic is backed by the Bigio Family).
Pins and Shade go looking for the female ganger. Find her with a smart corporate sedan, Pins follows the car as Shade watches her. Car is put into storage in an abandoned warehouse.
She heads off and Pins heads back to pick Shade up and follow her. She heads into an apartment block with a kid. Some time after kid leaves, and Shade and Pins head up.
Shade bypasses maglock, Pins grabs handle of door, and gets tasered and falls unconscious. Shade hears her doing a runner, and he chases after her leaving Pins unconscious in the corridor. He hits her with a stun baton, handcuffs her, and puts her and Pins into his car and drives out of the area to an abandoned warehouse - then interrogate her. Her name is Naomi Kerenski. She reveals she stole it for a Bigio Family mafia chap, Bob "The Wheel's" Wallace (Bob Wallace). And is due to meet him again today to deliver another car.
We pay her 3K to tell us where the car drop-off point will be, then let her go. We spy on the car, and mafia deliver it to a chop-shop.
That night, The Mole breaks into Wendy's clinic, puts in a dataline tap, and Shade decks in, validates as her, and then gets info on the man Shade recognised from there - with a reference code of BG. Shade edits that chap's next appointment to be 2pm Tuesday.
Team all go to get a night's sleep.
Tuesday 29th August
Shade wakes up early (6am) and goes to the Power House gym, and signs up for a super platinum account.
Team go for breakfast, then head out to spy on the mafia chop-shop, where we see the van-driver/clinic-guy who we are planning to grab later.
Shade hacks into the Mafia chop-shop, looking for a backdoor, first tries the 'files' subsystem, then finds it in the 'slave' subsystem, and gracefully logs through it and into another host where he plays with some IC for a while, crashes some IC and suppresses it. He then validates himself as a security user, and analyses the host - it is a mafia chop-shop requisitions host. Shade browses the files, lots of transponder code info, serial code info, arms shipment files, incoming vehicles, vehicle database, etc.. Shade tries to open a file, decrypting scramble IC on it, and a databomb (pavlov?) goes off, which he shields himself from, he then tries to read the file, he can't, and so crashes the pavlov IC, then reads the file - it contains info on all the cars being chopped. He then does the same to get the file on the arms shipment - it is being delivered to tacoma shipyards this morning, and leaving on 10:30am freighter service to the Philippines, and being handed over to the HUK contact, it includes variety of small arms, and some surface-to-air missiles. Shade then searches the people files for a reference to BG, and recognises the name Tony 'the chief' Gianelli, and Bob 'the wheels' Wallace. Shade suddenly realises that he's been spotted by another user, and tries to evade, then as the other user tries to follow Shade tries to gracefully log off at 10:30am.
Team then kidnap mafia bloke and driver from the clinic at 2pm. Interrogation involves Pins slicing out one of main-bloke's achilles tendons. He tells us that the Filipino terrorist made a deal to buy weapons, and part of the deal is he wanted that kid, and so the mafia kidnapped him for the Filipino. The kid is now on the ship with the weapons heading to the Philippines. Once all the info has been obtained, Pins slices open the belly of the main bloke, whose intestines plop out, Shade then shoots them both, and the bodies are burnt.
Team then arrange a meet with the Johnson (boy's father). he wants the Fillipino terrorist dead, and will pay an extra 120,000. Team agree and the Johnson will helicopter the team in, last bit travelled in a stealth zodiac thingy.
Team arrive late at night, and get onto a deserted deck. The Mole sneaks in with his cloak on, and installs a dataline tap through which Shade hacks the cameras.
Through the cameras Shade works out which room has the terrorist and boy. other room has 4 Filipino crew and 2 bodyguards. The Mole rolls a neurostun grenade in to take care of the 4 crew members and 2 bodyguards.
Pins uses maglock passkey to get into terrorist's room, The Mole shoots him with narcojet, and takes kid into another room after tranquilising him with narcojet. Shade and Pings chat to terrorist. The boy is his brother, the 'father' bought him through Yakuza from an orphanage.
He gives a sob story, trying to persuade us to not kill him and let him 'keep' his brother, and pins shoves his cyberspur through his eye.
Team then head back to helicopter, and exfil.
We meet the Johnson again, and Mr Mitsumoto says he is pleased with us, he gives us the money, and says he is in our debt. pay: 420,000 (140K each)
Epilogue
Shade sees email from his deckmeister wanting to arrange sale of more programs, but Shade suspects it is the mafia who recognised the programs he used and wants to get him.
Shades deckmeister Sidney Green has been killed, and his shop torched, as the Mafia traced Shades programs back to him.
Mafia are suspicious about Wendy's sudden appointment with one of their guys that led to his kidnap and death. Shade correspondingly is avoiding her, as he suspects the mafia know his face and his dealings against them in this run.
Pins' gang mates do a few driveby beatings of The Wheeled Warrior ork gangers, and though Pins missed a tuesday evebing rally, he does get asked to grab a bloke who spied on the rally. Pins is given an address and grabs the man, who is tortured into revealing a covert MOM cell in California. Then he is exploded in the hall of the rally to try and set up a MOM agent as being a suicide bomber.
Shade gets an email from Wendy 'I am in a lot of trouble' I need help, and arranges to meet with him. She heard something happened to the guy he was asking about, isn't going to ask him about it, and won't tell anyone about it. She asks why he didn't make an appointment with her, and he says it was because her backers (Mafia) put him off, he doesn't like them, has a personal issue with them, and wants nothing to do with them. She says that she has to do what is best for her, that it is hard to work on the streets, that Webb got her into bad shit. The mafia protect her, and she needs security. She had been associated with the Yakuza previously, but that didn't work. Shade says he isn't interested in discussing her past, or his own past. She criticises his constant drinking, then invites him to a pub. Over a few drinks Shade tells Wendy that the Mafia killed his dad, and when he got close to finding out why, they set him up and got him sacked, then his wife left him, second wife left him too, took the kids, boo hoo, took him to court, took all his money, and he slid until he ended on the streets. She moans about how she wants to get a fake cred stick, get herself a decent life again, that in her past she did some stims, used to sell them to people, and took too many once, made a mistake, gave the wrong dose, killed someone, and the investigation discovered her dealing and ruined her, so she has no way back legally.. hence trying to do it illegally... and her best friend from medical school was taking stims too, they set up business afterwards, under yakuza protection, and one day Webb pulls a gun on them, and the Yaks come around the next day, beat her up, break her arm, and after her surge some guy burns down her place which killed her friend, all because of Webb having pulled that gun, and she is only staying with Webb 'cause she needs the security. Then she goes on about how she used to go out with The Mole, and she was kidnapped for some surge testing - her assitant kille din the snatch, and Webb got her out, and The Mole was there too, and when she asked where her assistant was he said she was 'frying tonight' so callous and she dumped him. Shade tries to express how The Mole is okay.. just a little weird at times, but ok. She mutters that The Mole has so many fake identities, he doesn't know who he is anymore, but she trusts Shade, he has morals and knows who he is. She's at the bottom of the ladder, having to cling onto anythignfro protection, first The Mole, then Webb, now Mr Bigio with the mafia. She likes being part of something, fitting in.. Webb never let her run with him, she felt excluded. Shade tries to explain she is a surgeon, not a fighter, and not really needed on shadowruns in the way the rest of the team is. Shade ponders her coming on the runs operating a stealth-ambulance. They both discover the other is signed up at the Powerhouse Gym and muse on that for a while. Shade gets intoxicated no only on the alchol, but on the openness of the conversation, his dulled senses trying to alert him as she goes on about how refreshing it is to be so open with someone. She then drags him onto the dance floor - and she tells him how she is going to break up with Webb. She jokes she will tell him she is getting back with The Mole. Shade begs for a picture of his expression if she does. She gazes into his eyes, and kisses him.
S: Um.. you like me, eh? Oh this is bad... errr...
W: Come on, were just two people trying to connect, talking..
S: You're going out with Webb
W: No weve broken up
S: he doesn't know
W: He'll find out
S: I'd rather he not find out this way... once you have broken up with him.... *drinks more*
Wendy asks him to take her back to her apartment, he does, she invites him in for coffee, he declines.. saying 'Next time.. it isn't right yet'. She says there might be someone in her apartment, to take her up to look after him, and so he goes up with her just to check.
He does go up, and he checks her apartment, she invites him to stay, or have some coffee... or.. anything else.. kissing his neck.. he says how he really should go, but he doesn't go.. she tries to get him to relax by massaging his shoulders.
Then she moans: You just don't care, you're pushing me away
S: I'm not
W: think of what we've spokenabout tonight
S: Look, you know I've been burnt twice.
W: are you saying I am like them, that we are all the same
S: you're going out with Webb
W: he and i have no future
S: That's not the point, you are with him, and until that changes it will be wrong for me to do anything
W: just go then
S: oh why do I do this to myself *feeling self-pity*
W opens the door for him to leave
W: I am sure we can be rational and think itthrough in the morning *sarcastic*
S: oh sod it... I don't think i checked the place thoroughly, I'll need to give it a once over again
